Semiconductor manufacturer onsemi has unveiled a bold market forecast, projecting a $6 billion business opportunity in the Physical AI sector by the year 2030. This major valuation specifically excludes the automotive sector, focusing purely on emerging automated applications and next-generation industrial systems.
The forward-looking strategy was officially detailed during the company’s Investor Day 2026 presentation. Industry experts and enthusiasts tracking optics articles will find these hardware advancements crucial for understanding modern machine vision.
Powering the Robotics Revolution
According to onsemi’s official estimates, the specialized semiconductor content supplied for just a single humanoid robot will be valued at approximately $900. CEO Hassane El-Khoury noted during the event that demand for advanced power semiconductors is rapidly spreading into AI data centers and robotics.
El-Khoury emphasized that efficient power management has quickly become the ultimate common denominator across all modern technology markets. Whether individuals are researching telescopes or automated systems, optimized energy flow remains a core engineering challenge.
Strategic Acquisitions and Autonomous Expansion
To successfully capture this emerging landscape, onsemi agreed to acquire touch-controller and Edge AI pioneer Synaptics for roughly $7 billion. This multi-billion-dollar acquisition is slated to officially close in mid-2027, significantly bolstering the firm’s market expansion.
Sudhir Gopalswamy, president of onsemi’s Analog and Mixed-Signal group, described Physical AI as a natural extension of autonomous vehicle technology. As intelligent machines grow increasingly independent, they require sophisticated sensing, power management, and actuation technologies to safely navigate the physical world.
