South Korea’s export landscape experienced a historic transformation in July 2026, touching a staggering 99 billion dollars in total export value. According to data released by the Korea Customs Service, this milestone reflects a phenomenal 63.0% increase compared to the same period from the previous year.

This remarkable economic leap was primarily powered by an unprecedented boom in cutting-edge technology and global artificial intelligence infrastructure investments. Observers tracking general optics articles and industrial trends note that high-performance hardware components are currently dictating global trade movements.

The Dominance of Large Corporations and AI Infrastructure

Semiconductors and Computer Peripherals Lead the Charge

The extraordinary national growth was heavily anchored by major enterprises, whose exports surged by an incredible 90.7% to reach 74.4 billion dollars. This exceptional performance was anchored by a jaw-dropping 228.3% increase in semiconductor shipments alone.

Furthermore, computer peripheral exports skyrocketed by 389.5%, directly fueled by aggressive global spending on artificial intelligence servers. Additional sectors such as wireless communication devices, ships, petroleum products, and passenger vehicles also posted notable gains for large conglomerates.

A Widening Corporate Polarization

Divergent Realities for Small and Medium Enterprises

Despite the macro-level prosperity, the trade data exposes a growing structural divide across the broader corporate ecosystem. While large firms thrived, medium-sized enterprises and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) recorded much more modest growth rates of 8.7% and 17.9%, respectively.

Worse still, medium-sized corporations actually suffered a 13.4% decline in their semiconductor exports year-over-year. Because of these contrasting trajectories, large corporations expanded their control to capture an overwhelming 75.2% of total national exports, leaving smaller entities with shrinking market shares.
