Ambit, a Bangalore-based VLSI design services firm, has built a solid track record since its founding in 2017. Now, it’s expanded into the United States by setting up Ambit Semiconductors Inc. in Austin, Texas.

The new company, incorporated in November 2023 and kicking off operations in January 2025, serves as Ambit’s North American headquarters. This move lets Ambit get closer to the world’s top semiconductor ecosystem and ramp up its services and product development across key VLSI domains.

Ambit expands into the United States with Ambit Semiconductors Inc.

Ambit picked Austin for its proximity to major semiconductor innovators and the thriving ecosystem that supports hardware and software co-design. CEO Saseendra J points out that the Texas hub will help Ambit grow a larger U.S. team and boost capabilities in RTL, design verification, physical design, signoff, analog design/layout, and embedded systems.

This new subsidiary is a wholly owned arm of Ambit Semiconductors Private Limited (India). Ambit also makes it clear that it’s not affiliated with any similarly named external entities.

Ambit’s U.S. venture comes after a pretty interesting corporate journey. From April 2020 to March 2022, Ambit operated under an acquihire arrangement with Insemi Technology Services Pvt. Ltd. Since April 2022, though, Ambit has been fully independent.

The decision to set up a North American headquarters is part of a bigger plan to plug into a leading semiconductor cluster and keep delivering VLSI design services in RTL, verification, physical design, and more.

Key details of the U.S. subsidiary

Here are the core facts behind Ambit’s U.S. expansion:

  • Incorporation: Ambit Semiconductors Inc. set up in November 2023.
  • Operational start: Operations start in January 2025.
  • Headquarters: North American HQ in Austin, Texas.
  • Ownership: Fully owned by Ambit Semiconductors Private Limited (India).
  • Relationship to other entities: No ties to similarly named outside companies.
  • Prior corporate form: Previously worked under an acquihire agreement with Insemi (2020–2022); independent since 2022.
  • Recent product and program milestones: In 2024, Ambit launched Ambit Innovations to work on hardware and software for medical and education sectors.
  • Future programs: Projects in AI accelerator architectures and automotive chiplet design are set to begin in Q4 2026.
  • Certifications and awards: ISO-certified operations; recipient of the Indian Economic Development Award in 2022.

Ambit’s broader growth strategy and product roadmap

The U.S. expansion is just one part of Ambit’s bigger plan to widen its engineering reach and focus more on products. The company wants to grow its U.S. team in all the important VLSI domains, while still delivering core design services—everything from RTL to embedded systems—using a global delivery model.

With the Austin base, Ambit expects to work more closely with customers and ecosystem partners, making it easier to prototype and validate silicon quickly.

Ambit is also building up Ambit Innovations, a platform for hardware and software solutions in fields like healthcare and education. This move shows a shift toward offering integrated solutions, so customers can get everything from development to deployment in one place.

Ambit’s roadmap includes a deep dive into AI accelerators and automotive chiplet design. The company seems pretty committed to high-performance, modular architectures that can handle the demands of automotive and AI workloads over the next few years.

Strategic drivers and domain expansion

Ambit’s putting real effort into growing in high-value VLSI areas, including:

  • RTL design and design verification
  • Physical design and signoff
  • Analog design and layout
  • Embedded systems engineering

By building these capabilities in Austin and combining them with its established services in India, Ambit wants to offer smooth, global solutions that fit the fast timelines and high quality standards semiconductor customers expect.

This approach matches an industry trend: teams spread across the globe, working together to deliver faster silicon iterations and solid verification cycles. It’s a smart way to keep up with the pace of change.

Milestones, recognition, and governance

Ambit’s journey features some notable milestones and governance steps that help build its reputation in the semiconductor world. The company managed steady growth through its transitions and now runs independently under its Indian parent, keeping its ownership and governance clear.

Ambit holds ISO certification for its operations and picked up the Indian Economic Development Award in 2022. Not too shabby—recognition like that says a lot about its impact in the tech sector.

What this means for clients and partners

partihe

  • Stronger proximity to the U.S. ecosystem means faster collaboration with chipmakers, foundries, and EDA partners. That’s a big deal for teams who need quick turnarounds.
  • Expanded VLSI capability now covers RTL, verification, physical design, analog, and embedded systems. Clients get end-to-end support for their silicon projects—no more piecing things together.
  • Integrated product and services approach through Ambit Innovations backs hardware and software deployments in healthcare and education. There are also plans for AI and automotive workloads, which sounds promising.
  • Clear governance and certifications give customers reliability and compliance. That’s important for anyone after global engineering excellence.
